One Dave's World

And, another note on horrible performance...

Don't be too surprised if the (latest) Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape killer underwhelms. I'm posting this via IE7b2 and to say its a "relaxing process" is being kind. I love the Tabs and "Add Tab Group to Favorites" (which must change...Tab Group....isn't that a Beach Movie star from the 60's?) which just about covers the Firefox functionality. Throw in some neat syndication tricks and Micro$oft is almost caught up to 2004. But, you gotta love such a slow-moving [sic] target. Its almost too easy....

Bueno suerte...

Simply the most atrocious officiating I've ever seen in a major sporting event. And, Steeler fans, you know what I'm talking about.

Is it possible to say you've "won" when you haven't done anything to deserve it? I doubt the Stealers will give the trophy back. But, I must admit I did set aside my historical animosity towards the SeaChickens to commisserate with those long-suffering fans. True heartbreak one should never see....

Web services - fact or fiction? Is the lure of massive interoperability a marketing scam or a technological dream? Do computer geeks stay up late at night dreaming up new (absurd) ways of doing things just to confuse us Reg'lar Folk?

Burning questions all. For my part, I simply want a single source of information. And, I want the 'business logic' to do the 'heavy lifting' (aka "transformation") into any known/unknown format for presentation to a varied and heterogenous audience. My own Fool's Gold...

One Dave's World

Not being an extrovert, it is an awkward proposition to post a blog. But, mindsets must change with the times.

Today's dilemma is web services/soa testing. Is it possible to test cutting edge tools using defined (or "traditional") methods? Theory says no and practice agrees.

Another perspective is that you get what you pay for. So, if you are creating something that is Open Source but to do so conflicts with your Day Job, how do you reconcile?

For Eclipse'ers out there, is SOA just too new to have any substance on which to stand? And, if so, hows does a QA Geek test the bleeding edge without cutting himself?

Sign me confused.

One Dave's World

I've been trying to add to this blog for sometime. Today's rant actually comes from Wednesday (11th January).

Is it possible that Portland is the most progressive (airport) city in the World? At PDX, you get *FREE* Wireless connections. My recent travels have taken me to Sacramento, San Francisco, Denver, and Los Angeles. In all these "big" cities, you have to pay (gasp!) for wireless connections in their "international" airports. At PDX, you get this free.

Or, could it be that Portland simply is too dumb to see a revenue opportunity? For my part, I like being able to catch 15 minutes of email at no extra charge. Ah, Sweet Utopia.

Au revoir....

This is an incredibly banal thing to do. But, as luck would have it, I've started to become more interested in Open Source Ecosystems, which is a term I just now created. As such, the thing to do is get a blog so that I can trumpet the fact. It's done.

More later if I can think of something striking to say...
